A powerful trailblazer, Akua Naru has a lot to say and says it with her own unique rhythm and style. In this workshop, she will help you find your own style by analyzing the poetics of Hip Hop, surveying various writing styles and methods employed by rap artists within the canon. Based on lyrical writing alone, we will ask ourselves: "What makes a dope emcee?" Participants will be encouraged to write lyrics based on a close reading of lyrical and literary technique.

THINGS TO KNOW

  1. Gates open at 2.00p.m. Entry is from Gate Number 3. Try not to mix up the two.
  2. There is ample parking available at the venue from Gate Number 4. If you need help, all you have to do is ask :)
  3. Your wristbands are more valuable than your Aadhar card during the festival. Keep them on at all times for BOTH the days, come what may; sleep, showers, afterparties, everything. Wristbands will NOT be issued again.
  4. There is also plenty of cocktails and drinking and driving is so passe. Please call a driver or use public transport.
  5. LDA (Legal Drinking Age) will be enforced at the festival. If you are underage, please don’t drink or we will be forced to ask you to leave the festival. Venue rules apply.
  6. Spoken is a Safe Space Zone and no form of harassment, sexual or physical will be tolerated.

At Spoken, we care about doing our bit to minimize our environment impact.Here's how you can help us make Spoken a low-waste event in 3 simple steps:

  1. Segregate your waste at the venue into Food Waste and Recyclable waste. We'll have signages to help guide you on this.
  2. Be a sustainability ninja. Reuse your cup for refills at the bar!
  3. Skip the straw. But if you absolutely want one, there are paper straws available on request.
